In times when the interaction and movement of people is frequent, it is necessary to analyse the rules on international jurisdiction over disputes, especially those arising from torts and, more specifically, those related to the Internet. The present essay starts with the analysis of general international jurisdiction rules in the Brazilian legal system and, in parallel, in the European Council Regulation No 44/2001. After that, rules of exercise of jurisdiction over civil wrongs according to Brazilian law are examined, including some related to the subject comprised in international conventions ratified by Brazil. Finally, rules relating to the exercise of jurisdiction in the context of internet disputes are also analysed.
